Markmaking & Mindfulness Workshop, 21-22 Apr, Orepuki

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Super excited for this fun event! On April 21-22, the talented Andrea Sexton is running a 2-day workshop in Orepuki called “Freedom in Markmaking, Building Innovative Artwork”. I’ll be complementing her teachings with mindfulness practices, breathing exercises and yoga stretches.

Too scared to put paint on paper? Want to learn new fun techniques? Get away from the daily rut and explore your creative side? Then come join us for these two wonderful days in Orepuki.

Markmaking describes the creation of patterns, lines, textures and shapes. In itself, markmaking can be a meditative and mindfulness practice (think doodling?), but allowing yourself to express yourself freely is not that simple and relaxing for everyone. This workshop is all about helping you unleash the playful artist within you, overcoming any nervousness you may feel when it comes to getting paint onto paper. Andrea will take you on a fun and exciting journey, teaching a range of creative practices, processes, and exploring various mark making tools.

I will be working alongside Andrea, to share mindfulness techniques to help us cultivate awareness, address self-doubt and censorship, and to encourage a non-judgmental and curious attitude towards this creative process. Breathing exercises will be used to help you ground ourselves in the moment, to energize or relax. And simple yoga stretches will help us loosen up, explore space, and help us stretch after sitting over our artwork for some time.

I am sure these two days will be great fun, and that Andrea and I will be able to help you get your creative juices flowing! We hope to see you there!
